Choosing between concrete and fiberglass isn't just a matter of taste: they are two radically different ways of building a pool, with real consequences for timeline, budget, and long-term weak points.
Concrete pool, built to spec
- XD2-grade concrete, dosed at 350 kg of cement/m³, with a waterproofing admixture
- TOR 10-12mm steel rebar, floor slab and walls, raised for proper concrete cover
- Monolithic pour (slab and walls poured the same day, by pump) to avoid cold joints
- 28 days of unavoidable curing time before reaching full strength
- Outdoor job site, dependent on weather and the mason's skill
Fiberglass pool
- One-piece shell manufactured in a workshop (gelcoat, fiberglass lamination, degassing, quality control)
- No structural joints: the shell comes out of the mold in a single piece
- No curing to wait for: installed and ready to use within days once the shell is ready
- Manufacturing unaffected by weather, under constant quality control
- Surface can be customized (wood, stone, tiling) without affecting the shell's watertightness
A concrete pool built to these standards is a reliable product — but it is also a job that takes several weeks and requires a concrete plant, a pump, and skilled labor, which explains its real cost.
